WASHINGTON–(COMMERCIAL THREAD) – Armaments Research Company, Inc. (ARC) today announced plans to develop a predictive maintenance platform for crewed weapons for the US Marine Corps. This project is part of a $ 60 million, 5-year, $ 60 million Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase III contract recently awarded to the RCAF with the United States Department of Defense (DoD) and General Services Administration (GSA) to develop systems for the army – “Domain Command and Control” project portfolio (JADC2). The goal of JADC2 is to connect the sensors of each military service into a single integrated network.
Last month, the CRA introduced Task Orders 1 and 3, the first projects to be delivered under the “Undefined Delivery, Undefined Quantity” (IDIQ) contract. These projects focus on merging data from ARC’s state-of-the-art miniaturized computer sensors with other battlefield data sources, delivering decision-quality information to tactical forces via mobile and reality platforms. extended (XR).
Given the importance of functioning and well-maintained weapon systems on the battlefield, ARC’s latest project expands the development of its AI / ML-based weapons sensor, ARC-Response ( ARC-R), platforms for small to medium caliber weapons. . This capability enables predictive maintenance and optimizes unit readiness. The project enables units to proactively predict, plan and take action for events such as repair or part failure before they occur, ensuring reliability and safety during training and operations.
The RCAF will adapt its state-of-the-art Internet of Things (IoT) sensor to seamlessly integrate it into crew weapon platforms to collect, synthesize, and communicate diagnostics to units to assess the overall health of their platforms. The data will be used to develop machine learning (ML) algorithms that detect when a weapon component may fail or when the weapon system requires maintenance.
This information enables commanders to take decisive action with accurate and timely information on the utilization rates of their weapon systems, 1) dramatically reducing unscheduled weapon maintenance, 2) extending weapon life. and 3) creating savings through supply chain optimization.
