The M8 motorway has been closed in both directions outside Edinburgh after a ‘serious’ accident left a vehicle on central reserve.
The road was closed between the Junction 2 Claylands interchange and the Junction 3 Dechmont interchange near the city airport following the collision on the eastbound carriageway.
The incident happened around 1:15 p.m. Sunday. Emergency services responded and Police Scotland asked drivers to use alternative routes.
Traffic Scotland said traffic queued in both directions after the crash with delays of around 45-50 minutes eastbound and 20-30 minutes westbound.
There are also traffic jams on exit 3 of the junction to the A899 and on the A89.
At 2.25pm the eastbound M8 remained restricted with long queues in both directions. Road Policing Scotland said the motorway was running on the eastbound hard shoulder only due to a “serious” road traffic accident.
At 3 p.m. a spokesman for the force said: ‘We expect to clear the way one shortly. Lane two will remain closed until the vehicle is collected from central reservation.
