LAMAR COUNTY, Mississippi (WDAM) — You may have noticed earth-moving and construction machinery in the field next to the Rain Forrest car wash on U.S. Highway 98 in Lamar County.
At the February 7 meeting, the Lamar County Board of Supervisors approved a conditional use of the area for the lot to allow the Kia dealership to relocate to the lot.
County Administrator Jody Waits confirms the dealership is moving from its current location on Broadway Drive in Hattiesburg. The council also granted a minor facade exemption for the construction site.
“Then they’ll submit a site plan to our planning department, and the planning department will review it and make sure it’s everything it should be, and then they’ll be free to continue building their dealership. ‘, says Waits.
Some members of the Cumberland Subdivision Homeowners Association have attended board meetings on the project worried about the impact on their neighboring property.
‘There were concerns in the neighborhood adjoining the property and they worked with the developer and concessionaire, and they resolved this out of court. There are, you know, green spaces that will be provided,” says Waits.
“We are pleased that the Kia dealership provides green space for the neighborhoods behind them and is good neighbors, so we welcome them to Lamar County and look forward to seeing them here soon.”
There is no timetable yet for the construction of the concession.
