Specialist Marine Consultants (SMC) has been awarded a contract to provide Seagreen Wind Energy Limited with holistic Plant Balance (BoP) services to support multiple activities during the construction phase of the 1.1GW Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm from Scotland.
The scope of services encompasses a comprehensive set of multi-scope resources, including a range of inspection, maintenance and repair services, SMC said.
The BoP contract follows a turnkey marine coordination contract that SMC won in April 2021 to support construction and commissioning operations at the Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm.
21 of the 114 Vestas V164-10.0 MW wind turbines were installed in April 2022 in the offshore wind farm, while the first wind turbine was installed at the beginning of December last year.
It was the first time a wind turbine with a double-digit megawatt capacity had been installed offshore Europe.
Scotland’s largest and deepest fixed bottom offshore wind farm is a joint venture between SSE Renewables (49%) and TotalEnergies (51%).
The Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm is located approximately 17.5 nautical miles (approximately 32 kilometers) southeast of the Port of Montrose, where the project’s Marine Coordination Center (MMC) is located for the construction, operation and maintenance (O&M).
SSE Renewables is leading the development and construction of the Seagreen project, backed by TotalEnergies, and will operate Seagreen upon completion for its expected 25-year life.
First power is expected early next year, with the offshore wind farm due to enter commercial operation in 2023.
SSE and SMC are already cooperating on the 3.6 GW Dogger Bank offshore wind farm, where SMC is also supporting the project with maritime coordination services.
