Amman – Sunday July 24, 2022 – SRTF is pleased to announce today the approval of two new agricultural projects for a total budget of €6 million. The projects will be implemented in the North and North East of Syria, namely; “Agricultural Equipment Mechanization and Training Centers in Ar-Raqqa – Phase III” and “Supporting farmers for the production of wheat and vegetable crops in northern Aleppo”.
With a total budget of 3,073 million euros, Phase III mechanization project (MTC) builds on the achievements of two previously successful interventions under the stabilization program in Ar-Raqqa and aims to introduce technical advisory services to farmer cooperatives in nine villages in the governorate of Ar-Raqqa. It will provide operational, maintenance and management training to the cooperatives for the efficient and safe operation of the agricultural machinery provided by SRTF as well as the maintenance of these machines in the nine mechanization centers that will be built for the targeted cooperatives. It will also introduce training workshops for cooperative members on equipment maintenance, mechanization practices, as well as awareness training on climate-smart irrigation and agriculture, including compliance with the report. Pesticide Assessment and Safer Use Action Plan (PERSUAP).
About 500 farmers will receive mechanization services as well as all farmers in the nine target communities and adjacent communities will have access to the newly constructed MTCs to benefit positively from the organized and efficient planning of agricultural mechanization services provided by this intervention.
The second project; “Supporting farmers for the production of wheat and vegetable crops in northern Aleppoaims to support small and medium-sized farmers by improving and expanding their wheat and vegetable production in northern Aleppo. In addition, it will organize training seminars for farmers and rehabilitate agricultural sectors in targeted areas. In terms of beneficiaries, the project with a budget of 3 million euros will directly benefit 4,000 farmers and 20,000 members of their families; a total of 24,000 beneficiaries. Indirectly, the project will benefit the rural and urban population of northern Aleppo by improving food security. It is estimated that 12,000 tons of wheat will be produced, the wheat produced will be milled and is expected to directly benefit 95,000 people/month for 12 months.
