A message from Mayor Rich Walker
One thing is certain at Parkland; our city has a plethora of exceptional and hardworking volunteers who create a culture of giving in our community. This concept has been even more apparent in our city over the past few months. Families continue to work together to make the world a safer place, residents continue to support each other when it matters most, and dedicated volunteers make our community the shining jewel that it is.
Our sports leagues have amazing volunteers who provide our families and their children with a great, memorable experience. Volunteerism and participation are essential to the success of a community. Parkland residents demonstrate this desire daily, and it is a blessing to interact with such dedicated people. Whether it’s at one of our municipal events, the Parkland Chamber of Commerce, a sports league event, a homeowners association meeting, or one of our many other diverse activities established across the city, it’s natural to be incredibly proud of Parkland.
As we move forward into April, we reach an important time of year for municipal government. Strategic planning is essential to municipal government and the budget process. During strategic planning sessions, we take into account all negative and positive comments, ideas, concerns and comments that our municipal board receives directly from residents. These topics become points of discussion between the Municipal Board and City staff throughout several workshop sessions. These sessions, in turn, lay the groundwork for our next fiscal year and extend the years to come.
It’s so important to keep engaging in a positive way. Your involvement helps us as a municipal commission to serve you better. We are all extremely active and accessible and look forward to talking to residents at every opportunity. When you see us, don’t hesitate to ask us questions or give us your comments.
Strategic planning begins in April and continues through June. Finally, in September, we establish the mileage rate and set in motion our capital projects for the coming year, which begins October 1st. With your help, we look forward to always moving Parkland forward in a positive direction.
If you want to share your thoughts on strategic planning or volunteering, I’d love to hear from you. I can be reached by email at [email protected] or cell phone at 973-390-1453. Of course, I’m frequently available every month at Parkland businesses and love chatting with residents. I encourage you to visit the City’s website cityofparkland.org and click on the social media icon you prefer, to ensure you stay informed of events and useful information.
